The Wyoming Association for Career and Technical Education (WACTE) provides activities for teachers, counselors, and administrators that both support and enhance career and technical education programs throughout the state. Members obtain staff development through local, regional, and national conferences and workshops. A leadership workshop is provided to the officers of the organization, the seven division presidents and president-elects, and appointed committee chair-persons. Information is also disseminated to stakeholders via many modes of communication. Business and industry input is essential to the validity of Career and Technical Education programs. Many teachers connect with business representatives from around the state together to dialogue about the business and industry perspective. WACTE is dedicated to maintaining communication with these representatives.
Recently, the CTE team for Powell High School, where I work, met for our Fall CTE Advisory Council meeting. As I listened to what business members, community college staff, parents and students had to say, I realized we are in a special time in society. With the demand for workers, the amount of turnover, the professional skills needed, and the ever-changing skill-set students need, it made me understand how important Career and Technical Education classes are at the secondary and post-secondary level.
Through education opportunities, advisory meetings, reviewing data and legislation, WACTE is working towards preparing students to meet these needs for Wyoming. Staff, if you have not met with business members, please do so. Business members, if you have not met with your local teachers, both at the secondary and post-secondary, please give them a call and set up a time to meet. There is so much we can learn from each other. If you are not a member, either as a staff or corporate member, please consider joining.
Working together, we can make a difference in our wonderful state.
